The older population in this country makes up around a third of Japanese citizens. It’s interesting to note that the reason for the high percentage of elderly people is due to the baby boom that occurred after the Second World War. There was also an increase in the overall life expectancy of the Japanese population and an overall decrease in birth rates. 

2. The famous Japanese tea ceremony has existed since the 9th century.

If you’ve ever been to Japan or are fascinated by Japanese culture, you might be interested to learn that the earliest evidence of the tea ceremony dates back to the 9th century! When researching the history of this ceremony, archivists discovered in the Nihon Kōki that a Buddhist monk named Eichū had brought some tea to Japan after a trip to China. Eichū made and served tea to the Emperor, and the tradition to steeping tea and serving it continued in the years that followed. 

3. The religion Shinto originated in Japan.

Kami simply means that practitioners of this faith believe in Shinto deities and spirits are constantly present in all aspects of nature, and even in humans.

It’s also interesting to note that although Japanese literature isn’t influenced by Indian literature, Indian texts played a crucial role in the spreading of Buddhism in Japan.

The reason for this is that these gardens are designed with Japanese philosophical ideas and asethetics in mind. Garden designers in Japan tend to use aged and worn materials to imitate a natural landscape, and they generally dislike using artificial plants and materials. They also used aged materials to express how fragile time is, and how it never stops or slows down.
